Fat People Need Love Too

Last Saturday, I made a post regarding the saggy pants law that many states are trying to get into legislation (already in effect in some states). Now, three Mississippi legislators have an even more ridiculous idea, to ban obese people from being served at restaurants.
I agree that this country is obese beyond belief and something must be done to ensure that Americans live healthier, I cannot agree with this kind of action by our government. It seems that they are more concerned with banning something that they do not like or agree with, rather than investigating to the root of the problem so that a change can be made.
About one-third of Americans are obese (30 or more pounds over a healthy weight), and 66% are overweight or obese. Even so, obesity experts are outraged by the bill. “It would be hard to concoct something more ridiculous,” says Kelly Brownell, director of Yale University’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity.
Steve Holland, the Democratic chairman of the House Public Health and Human Services Committee, said in a statement he will “pocket veto” the bill. “It’s dead on arrival at my desk.” Although he appreciates the “efforts of my fellow House members to help curb the obesity problem in Mississippi, this is totally the wrong approach.”
While I am encouraged that thought is being given to the issue, the solution could not be more wrong. If government officials really wanted to help people live healthier, a good place to start would be by removing all the junk that is found in school cafeterias all over the country.

That’s rediculous… how would they determine something as rediculous as that?
